To forget one's ancestors is to be a stream without a source, a tree without roots.
Since 1946, generations of winegrowers in the family have passed on to us a deep attachment to the land, the value of work, know-how and the pride of being from Champagne! Today, our situation owes much to their tenacity and courage.
At the origins of Soret-Devaux champagne there is Hermas Saturnin Devaux, our great-grandfather, who was a winemaker all his life in Colombé-le-Sec. At the time he cultivated a few ares before being called up for military service during the First World War. He returned in February 1919 and gave birth to 5 children including Alexandre in 1925.
Alexandre Devaux our grandfather favors his work as a farmer and dairy farmer because at the time the work of the vineyard was not enough to feed the family. He will plant his first vines from 1946 on the plot “les Fleuriottes”. Our oldest vine planted in Chardonnay reminds us of him and produces incredible grapes every year. Anchored on a Kimmeridgian subsoil, it gives chiseled wines with an incomparable minerality and typical of our Micro terroir. But Alexandre is also one of the founding members of the village cooperative in the 60s. He gives birth to 3 daughters that he will raise alone following the sudden death of his wife.
Françoise Devaux, our mother, left childhood at the age of 13 to help her father on the farm and work at the cooperative. She married Didier Soret. Together, they expanded the wine estate by planting a few ares on Rochottes and other plots. Each worked on their own in addition to the work in the vineyard.
In the 80s, it was the time of births: Ours, Loïc and Romaric, and that of Soret-Devaux champagne. The marketing adventure began with initially a few thousand bottles sold per year.
Having fallen into the pot from our first steps, we wanted to perpetuate and develop what our parents had built. After studying viticulture in Avize and Beaune, we took over and expanded the estate in the 2000s with complementary aspirations: Romaric on the Vine side and Loïc on the Wine side.
We are Independent Winegrowers, having installed our traditional wooden wine press several years ago. We have chosen sustainable viticulture that respects the environment and biodiversity! Aurore joined us a few years ago to prioritize welcoming visitors with a varied and sparkling wine tourism offering!!!
